DESIGN MANAGER

£50K - £55K (DOE)

MANCHESTER / REMOTE WORKING

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to join a thriving team of creatives. Due to an increase of tenders won for various projects (commercial, residential & healthcare) they are looking to expand their Manchester team - with the option of remote working if preferred!

As a Design Manager, you will lead and co-ordinate the project design process in compliance with the requirements of SOP 62 Group Preconstruction and Design Management Process and all associated deliverables. The design produced must satisfy our contractual and Statutory obligations, and meet the quality and commercial requirement defined for the project. In doing so, you will be required to manage a design team comprising both internal colleagues and a range of external consultants from various disciplines.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Duties include:

  • Define the design deliverables and schedule required designers. Produce the Stage Gate Deliverables Schedules, assist the QS in preparing design scope documents and the planner with preparation of the design programme
  • Arrange a project specific BIM Execution Plan
  • Chair weekly design team meetings and maintain an Action Log
  • Arrange a DfMA launch and record ESS Design Standard application and production strategy including PMV plus factory/off-site/onsite demarcation
  • Manage and produce Stage Gate submittals and arrange designer presentations to the Technical Oversight/Design Standards Team (DST)
  • Arrange DST comments presentation back to designers
  • Arrange divisional stage gate reviews (Ops, Installation)
  • Arrange and conduct external client reviews (stage gate and/or RIBA, or client’s own process)
  • Manage close out of stage gate comments and formally record using a Stage Gate Comments Tracker for each designer and each stage of the process.
  • Define supply chain strategy and prepare an early engagement schedule
  • Manage CDE compliance, the RFI process and Drawing Management
  • Manage the Derogation process, both internally and externally
  • Schedule surveys and advise QS for appointments
  • Manage technical submittals
  • Design risk management (within a single Project Risk Management process)
  • Planning Conditions discharge management
  • Building Control/BCAR management
  • Breeam/Net Zero carbon process as required
  • Contribute to weekly Preconstruction Reports
  • Contribute to Formal Client reports
  • Provide the project QS with all design content required for the Contractors Proposals.

You will also have

  • An HNC/D or degree in a construction related subject or equivalent, and/or membership of the CIOB, RICS or RIBA is preferred.
  • A minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar design management role, or a combination of a senior technical or operational role such as planning or project management coupled with design management experience
