My client, a leader in the retail/ commercial & leisure fit out industry is growing their team. My client is seeking an experienced Estimator, responsible for assessing the costs and resources required for construction projects, manufacturing processes, or various services. You will play a critical role in helping make informed decisions by providing accurate and detailed cost estimates. As an Estimator, you are integral to the success of construction projects and other ventures by providing accurate cost estimates and contributing to effective project planning and decision-making. Your attention to detail, technical expertise, and ability to manage complex data play a pivotal role in ensuring projects are financially viable and efficiently executed.

 

About the role

Your day-to-day tasks may consist of:

  • Analysising project specifications, blueprints, and other relevant documentation to quantify the materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses needed for projects. 
  • Using expertise to determine the most accurate and comprehensive cost estimate possible.
  • Performing detailed quantity takeoffs, measurements, and calculations to determine the exact quantities of materials and resources required. This involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications to translate them into tangible quantities.
  • Collaborating with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain accurate pricing information for materials and services. .
  • Preparing tender documents and bids for construction projects, contracts, or services. Outlining the cost breakdown, scope of work, and other relevant details to present a compelling proposal to clients or project owners.
  • Working closely with project managers and stakeholders to establish budgets and monitor project costs throughout its lifecycle. Tracking expenses, identify deviations from the estimated costs, and propose cost-saving measures if necessary.
  • Identifying potential risks that may affect project costs and timelines. Evaluating uncertainties and develop contingency plans to mitigate risks and ensure projects stay within budget.
  • Using specialised software and tools to assist in cost estimation and project management. Streamlining the estimation process, improving accuracy, and enhancing communication with project teams.
  • Maintaining detailed records of cost estimates, bids, and related documentation. Generating reports and documentation for internal use, client presentations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, project managers, and clients, to gather relevant information and ensure accurate cost estimations. Effective communication and teamwork are essential in this role.
  • Keeping updated on industry trends, market fluctuations, and technological advancements that impact construction methods, materials, and costs. Ensuring estimates are current and reflective of industry best practices.

 

About you

To be successful in this application, you will need to:

  • Be motivated with a self-starting attitude
  • Possess excellent communication and written skills
  • Ideally, be educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Ideally, have experience working within a fast paced, shop fitting/retail environment, as well as being familiar with working with framework contract rates.
