Salary: £22–£25 per hour (Temporary Contract)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm (Early finish on Fridays; optional weekend work available)
About the Organisation
A large, vibrant Jewish community centre encompassing a wide range of facilities including event halls, a cinema, restaurants, community spaces, and tenanted areas. The centre is a high-footfall, multi-use environment that requires robust and proactive facilities management to maintain safe, efficient, and welcoming operations.
The organisation is currently seeking a Temporary Head of Facilities to step in following the departure of the permanent post holder. Outstanding performance in the temporary role may lead to consideration for the permanent position.
Role Overview
The Temporary Head of Facilities will be responsible for the effective day-to-day management of all facilities operations across the site. This role focuses heavily on overseeing external service providers and ensuring contractual performance across cleaning, security, IT support, and building maintenance.
The successful candidate will bring strong organisational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and experience managing complex, multi-service environments. A background in Hard FM would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coordinate, and oversee daily facilities operations across the community centre.
Manage and monitor performance of external providers, including:
Cleaning
Security
IT services
Building maintenance and Hard FM contractors
Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, building regulations, and internal policies.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify and address maintenance, safety, and operational issues.
Maintain efficient service levels across all areas including event spaces, cinema, restaurants, offices, and tenanted units.
Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and oversee reactive maintenance.
Respond to urgent building or operational issues in a timely and practical manner.
Manage budgets, contracts, and procurement for facilities-related services (as required).
Support the senior leadership team with facilities planning, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide excellent communication to stakeholders, staff, contractors, and tenants.
Person Specification
Essential:
Proven experience as a Facilities Manager or Senior FM in a large or complex multi-use environment.
Strong contractor and vendor management skills.
Knowledge of building systems, Hard FM, and planned/reactive maintenance processes.
Excellent understanding of health & safety and compliance requirements.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
Confident communicator able to work with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Desirable:
Hard FM background or technical building services experience.
Experience within leisure, hospitality, education, or community-based facilities.
Understanding of cultural or community-centre environments.
Contract & Working Pattern
Temporary assignment, with potential to transition to permanent.
£22–£25 per hour, depending on experience.
Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm, with an early finish on Fridays.
Optional weekend work available.
