Estimator – Civils & Utilities

Location: Barnsley, South Yorkshire (office-based with flexibility to work from home)
Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 per annum

About the Opportunity

We are working with a reputable civil engineering contractor delivering projects across infrastructure, utilities, substations and renewable energy sectors.

As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their pre-construction team based in Barnsley.

This is a full-time, primarily office-based role with flexibility to work from home, offering the chance to be involved in a wide range of projects and play a key role in securing new business.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for civils and utilities projects
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documentation to build accurate pricing
• Source and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations
• Identify risks, opportunities and value engineering options within tenders
• Collaborate with internal teams to develop competitive and compliant submissions
• Attend tender meetings and liaise with clients where required
• Maintain strong relationships with supply chain and key stakeholders
• Ensure all tenders are submitted accurately and within deadlines
• Support handover of successful bids to delivery teams

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Estimator within civils, utilities, groundworks or infrastructure
• Strong understanding of construction methods and pricing
• Experience working on utilities, substations or renewable projects is desirable
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Relevant qualification in Construction, Engineering or similar (or equivalent experience)
• Full UK driving licence preferred
