Project Manager
Project Manager – Manchester (North West Projects)
Office Location: Manchester
Project Location: North West
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000
We are working with a well-established main contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to join their Manchester office, delivering projects across the North West.
This is a site-based role responsible for the efficient, profitable and safety-conscious management of projects from inception through to completion and handover, as allocated by the Contracts Manager / Operations Director.
You will be expected to act professionally at all times, promoting a positive image of the business and ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard. The role requires a proactive and organised approach, working closely with site teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage site-based project delivery from inception through to completion and handover, reporting to the Contracts Manager / Operations Director
- Develop and update construction programmes using Asta Projects or equivalent software
- Prepare and maintain the Construction Phase Plan and ensure all site documentation is current and available
- Coordinate full site setup including welfare, logistics, utilities, security, signage and accommodation
- Liaise with clients, contractors and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery and standards are maintained
- Manage RFIs, CVIs and subcontractor communications via SharePoint, ensuring timely issue and resolution
- Issue subcontractor instructions and commencement notices in line with contract requirements
- Chair weekly site and subcontractor meetings, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out
- Provide regular progress updates and reports against programme to the Contracts Manager / Director
- Manage Health & Safety compliance including RAMS, PPE, F10 notices and site safety standards
- Supervise subcontractors and site operatives in line with company procedures and site rules
- Maintain key project documentation including drawings, registers, reports and compliance records
- Support procurement scheduling with the Quantity Surveyor
- Assist with extension of time claims, final account preparation and handover documentation (O&M and H&S files)
- Carry out daily site coordination, briefings and toolbox talks
- Ensure works are delivered in line with contract documents, design information and quality expectations, aiming for defect-free handover
Requirements
- IT literate, including Word, Excel and email (proficient level)
- Competent with construction planning software (Asta and Viewpoint or similar)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong numeracy, analytical and problem-solving ability
- Effective meeting and coordination skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Good understanding of commercial issues and requirements
- Experience producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements
- Suitable industry-standard management experience within construction
- SMSTS, First Aid, Asbestos Awareness and Working at Height
- Degree qualified (preferred) or minimum HNC/HND in Construction or related discipline
- CIOB or RICS membership (preferred)
- Professional approach with strong attention to detail and organisational ability
