About you
You are a Quantity Surveyor who does not need hand holding. You are comfortable running your own jobs and you take real pride in protecting margin and building solid relationships on site.
You probably live within an hour of Banbury, somewhere in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire or Hertfordshire, and you want to work for a contractor where your voice carries weight.
You enjoy groundworks and civil engineering. You like the pace of residential infrastructure. You want to be trusted with proper commercial responsibility and paid properly for it, with a salary between £55,000 and £70,000 depending on what you bring to the table.
Your experience
You have at least four years experience as a Quantity Surveyor within groundworks or civil engineering. You understand the pressures of working with volume housebuilders and you know how to manage costs on live residential infrastructure projects.
You are confident producing interim valuations, managing variations and agreeing final accounts. Excel does not scare you. You use it properly for cost tracking, forecasting and reporting.
You understand NEC and JCT contracts and you are commercially aware enough to spot risk early and deal with it. You can manage multiple live projects without dropping the ball.
A Quantity Surveying degree or progress towards RICS is useful, though experience and commercial nous matter more here.
What you will be doing with your experience
You will take commercial responsibility for three to four live groundworks and civil engineering projects, typically valued between £1m and £15m. These are residential infrastructure schemes for well known housebuilders.
You will manage cost control, subcontractor procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts. You will monitor budgets, cash flow and forecasts, reporting directly into the Commercial Director.
You will work closely with site teams to make sure the numbers reflect reality. You will attend commercial meetings and deal with clients in a straightforward, professional way.
You will not be micromanaged. You will be trusted to run your jobs properly while having senior support there when you need it.
About the business
This is a well established groundworks and civil engineering contractor with a strong national presence and a solid reputation in the residential sector. They deliver infrastructure packages for major UK housebuilders and continue to grow steadily across the Midlands and surrounding regions.
The culture is practical and team focused. Decisions are made quickly. Good performance is recognised. There is clear progression for a capable Quantity Surveyor who wants to step up and grow with the business.
They are based in Banbury and most projects are within a sensible regional spread, so you are not living out of your car.
