Vacancy Detail

Projects Manager

About you

You are a Project Manager or Contracts Manager who is comfortable running interior fit out or construction projects and taking real ownership of them. You like being trusted to manage things properly rather than being micromanaged.

You probably enjoy being out on site speaking with subcontractors, checking progress and keeping projects moving. At the same time you are organised enough to stay on top of programmes, costs and paperwork when you are back in the office or working from home.

You are someone who takes pride in delivering projects properly. You keep an eye on margins, you manage subcontractors well and you understand how important it is to keep clients confident and informed.

This role will suit someone who likes variety, enjoys juggling multiple live projects and wants a position where their experience actually matters.

Your experience

You will already have experience working as a Project Manager or Contracts Manager within construction or interior fit out.

You will likely have experience managing several projects at once and keeping control of programmes, budgets and subcontractors.

Experience using Microsoft Project will be helpful as you will be managing project timelines and planning work effectively. Knowledge of SharePoint or ERP systems would also be useful although it is not essential.

You will understand construction health and safety standards and be confident managing site activity in a safe and professional way.

Experience buying materials, appointing subcontractors and managing project costs is important. There is QS support available for larger purchases, although you will still be expected to take responsibility for your own projects.

If you already have relationships with subcontractors or labour in areas such as joinery or site management that would be a real advantage.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will be managing multiple interior fit out and construction projects at the same time. Most Contracts Managers here typically oversee around five live projects depending on their size.

Projects vary in length. Some are short programmes of a few weeks while others run for several months. Larger client projects can run for six to twelve months.

Your week will usually involve a mix of site visits and time in the office. Most Project Managers spend three or four days on site and a day in the office. There is also flexibility to work from home for a day during the week.

You will manage subcontractors, oversee site activity, keep projects on programme and ensure budgets are controlled to maintain expected margins.

You will also handle purchasing for your projects, appoint subcontractors and ensure materials are procured at the right time. For larger packages you will have support from a Quantity Surveyor.

The role suits someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects from start through to completion.
